I wasn’t able to get tickets to the Harry Potter world at Universal Orlando. (boo) I was, however, able to get tickets to Legoland. (yay?) As an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego, yeah, we have our own acronym, fuck off) I’ve heard that Legoland is heavily, heavily geared towards young kids, because of course it is.

Still, there’s some cool sculptures to see, plus, there’s “miniland” where there are Lego sculptures of the New York, DC, Las Vegas, etc skylines, and honestly, I’d pay good money to ignore every “ride” and just look at everything that’s been built using Lego, so I went to check it out. Massive dissappointment. The main #1 attraction of Miniland was…..closed for construction, so you could only see things from 50 feet away.

Basically the only real reason for me attending and I got to take faraway pictures and not study anything up close. Fuck you, Legoland Florida.

The car was pretty sweet, though.

After Legoland, I head north, eventually stopping in Brunswick, Georgia, for the night. I am immensely entertained by the highway billboards. I’m not sure if Florida is an especially litigious state, but there are billboards every few miles featuring lawyers with tantalizing offers to sue companies for slip-and-falls or to fuck over their exes in the divorce. As we move into SC, I start seeing more anti-abortion and more Jesus signs.

The next day, I make tracks for Savannah, Georgia, which is just magical. Easily one of the best stops on my trip. A few places I’d recommend:

The Bonaventure Cemetery historical site.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist
Historic downtown.
Wormsloe Historic Site featuring several of the most laid-back cosplayers I’ve ever seen. I asked if I could take a picture and they said of course, but first wanted to hide their Big Gulp soda first because it wasn’t period. No shit.

Savannah was amazing – a great smorgasborg of interesting, historical locations where you can see things while being reasonably safe from COVID. Eventually, I cut out and headed up toward Florence, mostly because that was about how far I was willing to drive today. At the moment, I am one day ahead of schedule (due to the Key West cuts), meaning I have an extra day I can add in to the Northeast. The question is, what to spend it on?

“Your strength as a rationalist is your ability to be more confused by fiction than by reality. If you are equally good at explaining any outcome, you have zero knowledge.”
